Uuhh, Sorry

So last night was the night of all stupid nights that Bryan and I have had together. Evan had awoke in the middle of the night. Bryan tried to put him back down, I tried to put him back down and we eventually caved and gave him a bottle at 3am. He went back down after that just fine. So at 3:30 just as I'm drifting back to sleep, I hear this noise coming from the other room. It's a loud, constant beep noise. It's fairly high-pitched and not stopping. So we jump up to investigate - we couldn't pinpoint where exactly in the room it was coming from. We decide that it has to be this weird heat sensor that was on our ceiling since we moved in...it must be malfunctioning. So Bryan gets out the ladder and attempts to rip in from the beam in the ceiling. He got it - but the noise kept coming - it wasn't that. So, it must be the house alarm - something is malfunctioning there. I call the ADT Home Security office. They don't see anything on their computers that is signaling a problem with our system. But the guy says maybe if we just shut power off to the system it will stop or at least we'll know if it's the alarm at all. So we are in the power box looking for the plug. Okay, it ends up that the thing is plugged in in the garage - who knew? It's unplugged - the noise is still there. We remove the wire connecting the thing to the battery - it's still there! AAAHAHHAHH! The guy on the phone must have thought we were nuts. He could hear the noise too...but he couldn't understand why we didn't know what was making the sound. So, I hang up with him since he had helped all he could. Bryan and I are determined that it is coming from the ceiling. He tries to go in the attic but the new ladder to the attic busts...he finds another ladder and gets up there...he can hear the noise up there but it's not coming from there. It is definitely in the living room. So we call the fire department - what else were we supposed to do? For 30 minutes we can't find the source of this noise! So the Town of Pantego fire truck arrives at our house at 4:00am. Three fire men get out and Bryan starts rattling off the details of what we knew. They come inside and stand there and said "yup, that's a noise." We had everything unplugged from the walls, we explain about the alarm system, the heat sensor, the smoke alarms, etc. The firemen walk through the kitchen, back out to the living room, closer to Brennan's toy kitchen. The one reaches down picks up Brennan's toy cash register, turns it over and flips the switch to off. THE NOISE STOPS! "You might want to get some new batteries, ma'am", said the fireman. "Try and get some sleep" says the other one. We were mortified!!!! How embarrassing is that! Okay, so that goes down in the record books as our stupidest moment.
