Happy Birthday, Mom!!!! We enjoyed making the cake and lasagna for you on Saturday night.
The kids all had a great time being together! Glad we COULD all be together.

Father: "Stop kicking the chair, please!"

Son: "But, I can't help it....I got low." (Meaning he slipped down in his carseat so his feet touch the driver's seat in front of him.

Father: "Well, find a better way to get high!"

Obsession

I am totally obsessed. I literally don't know what my problem is. My friend, Shannon, introduced me to this cookbook....I borrowed it for a while from her and then I had to buy her a new one because I had splattered whatever all over it while I was cooking from it. I am obsessed with this cookbook. It is greatness. I think I'm on a mission to cook everything in this book. I have cooked a bunch already so I might as well make it my mission at this point.

I was so sick of eating frozen pizzas, spaghetti, macaroni n cheese, hamburger helper, and generally, crap that was fast to cook but not that nutritionally based. After working all day - entertaining the kids when I got home and then facing the task of fixing dinner - I just had given up. So typical, right moms? Well, the point of this book is to pre-fix your meals and then freeze them so all you have to do is pop them in your oven and they are done. I usually will cook 2 or 3 meals at a time and then portion them up and freeze them. It's been great ---- it's supposed to be saving me time. But now that it has turned into an obsession - it seems to be taking up more of my time lately. I cooked 3 meals tonight from the book - 1 we ate tonight and 2 that I'm saving for another night. Granted my nerves are shot and every cupboard with every crappy plastic container with random lids are all over the kitchen because there was no other way to keep Evan occupied while I cooked. But dinner is done for the week. Yippee!!!! My point being, that I suggest the book and you don't have to get it at Super Suppers - amazon.com or even scholastic books sells it. I wish I was getting a plug for advertising it.

I've heard of people that cook every recipe from beginning to end out of a cookbook....I think Julia Child's cookbook was one of those or Martha Stewart's book. I had a dream once to cook every recipe from the Martha Stewart's Baking Handbook, which Bryan got for Christmas for me one year. I have cooked many things from there....that part is true, but once I read in the bread section and saw all the kneading and rising time - and the fact that all those baked goods does not do a body good, well, the dream quickly died. Maybe once I finish my Super Suppers book obsession I can start back on the Martha Stewart obsession.

Rodeo Parade

We went to the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Parade on Saturday. We got there early and got great seats. It was a lot colder than we had planned for but we made it work. There are no motorized vehicles - only horse-powered carriages, wagons and riders. We did see a lady fall and her horse fall on top of her....that was scary - I think she broke her leg. But the parade continued on around her. There were over 200 entries - so Lord knows how many horses we actually saw. Here is a little video of the TCU marching band avoiding the horse dooky in the road.

This little video below is of our bright and intellectual child. Right before I started taping he was banging the nose of the shark into the bucket in front of his face. Please keep your thoughts and prayers with me. ;)

Good Weekend

We had a great weekend! Saturday was such a gorgeous day out in the afternoon that I planned a little mystery trip to the park. There is this great park in Dalworthington Gardens that we've NEVER been to and it's stupid because it is literally down the street from our house. We fed the ducks at this little lake/big pond area. There were a bunch of different types too. There was a newly built platform/dock area and a big bag of bird seed sitting there. I had brought some old bread that was more fun to throw...but it was fun.

We then went over to the big grassy area and tried to fly our kite. It was windy and we (okay, Bryan) did get it up in the air a few times as proven by this picture below.But....this is mostly what it looked like. It spent more time on the ground, I think. Now, the kite flying was not necessarily our idea. See, Brennan always has ideas of what he wants to do when I pick him up from school. Some of them are doable and some are just a little too grand to pull off after school. On Friday, he told me he had an idea to build a kite. I said, "oh, we've got paper, glitter, markers, glue, etc....you can make a great picture of a kite!" "No, Mommy, I want to build a kite. I need material, sticks that make a little "t", string, and ribbons." Okay, how the kid knew what to build a kite from, I had no idea....but, bottom-line - I didn't know how to build a functioning kite. So, the idea just kind of got dropped until I remembered we owned a kite. So, that's where the kite flying idea came from.

We then spent some time on the playground before the sun set. It was a really nice evening. And when Brennan said it was like 3 mystery trips in one...I realized I could scale down my idea of a mystery trip and he'd still be excited!
