After Dark in the Park

On October 13th we went to After Dark in the Park at River Legacy Park. It's a great event sponsored by the city's Park and Rec department. They had a cute little pumpkin patch and then craft items to decorate your pumpkin with.
Evan got his face painted. It looks like he's really enjoying this experience, right? The poor highschool girl volunteer really wanted to put something authentic on there....but we said just draw a quick snake. Brennan wanted to be a tiger - I think that threw her for a loop so she just drew a yellow nose and whiskers on him - like that shows up when you are in a park... after dark.
They had a bunch of craft projects for the kids to do - here is Brennan and Kaden displaying their owl puppets.
It was a perfect evening to enjoy this event. We will definitely attend this one again.

Fright Fest

On Friday the 12th we met the Paladini's at Six Flags for Fright Fest. We had such a good time. Hopefully we can find another night before it's over to go back again. Brennan drove us around on the antique car ride. Kaden and Brennan loved the train ride around the park - screaming "All Aboard" and "choo choo"! at the top of their lungs.
Evan rode his first ride all by himself on the kiddie swings. He did great and seemed to really like it. He got to ride a bunch of rides with us that night. I just can't believe how big he's getting.
Evan was fascinated by Pirate Daffy.

State Fair Day

So, I'm a little behind on my blogging of our October adventures. I'm catching up. On October 8th, we went to the State Fair of Texas. We had a lot of fun even though it was 1000 degrees and 110%humidity. Below we are taking a lunch break.
Brennan wanted his picture by this Brahma Bull. I like how Evan is pointing at Brennan like he wanted his picture with him.
Brennan got to ride 2 rides...even though they scare the crap out of me. He rode this car ride they jammed packed with kids - so I don't know the 3 other munchkins in the car with him - but HE seemed to have a fun time!
This was the giant pig that we saw...I can't remember his name - I was too distracted by how big he was and by watching him eat.

We saw the car show, the Marine Corps band, ate corn dogs and walked and walked. It was a lot of fun!

Pirate Party 2007

Saturday was the big day - the day that had been in planning since origination in July. Pirate Party....ARGH! We had soooo much fun and the party was great. I would have posted a little sooner but our computer is acting very sick....I'm hoping it will get better but I'm very worried. Anyways, below is the cake - of course, I have to show the cake first - I had lots of help on this but the original idea was all there. Lindsey and Shannon came over the night before and helped me until 12:30 that night. The cupcakes are little whales, the ship is covered in chocolate fondant, the island is covered with crushed graham crackers. There are even gummy sharks lurrking in the water. It came together very nicely and the 4 candle cannons was the best part! Evan got his own little octopus cake that was just his to destroy and devour...which he did very well. He ate most of it - or at least until I pulled it away. He was so happy and loved it.

The original thought was to have most of the party outside - even the eating....but with the threat of rain at any moment we changed to setting everything up inside. Luckily our kitchen could accomodate the 8' kid's banquet table I rented. I would definitely recommend this idea to anyone!!! It worked out great - all the kids sat in one spot and that meant that all the mess was in one spot - roll up the tablecloth and the mess is gone. I think they all got a kick out of sitting all together too.
We had a blast planning all the games and activities. Brennan helped with the planning and preparation for many of the things. We hunted for treasure chests with each kid having their own special treasure map. We then played games to earn "booty" for the treasure chests. We played pin the key on the treasure map, walk the plank, limbo and find the rubber duck. After the games we moved inside for story time - Bryan read Pirate Pete while we set the plates with the food. I had pirate pizza and "bones" (crazy bread) for them to eat.
Most of the kids came dressed in pirate attire and if they didn't we had bandanas and eye patches for everyone. Everyone even got their own special pirate name that I found online. I think most of the adults had fun too! It was a great party and Brennan keeps asking if it's going to happen again. BTW, thanks for all those that helped that day - I totally couldn't have done it without you!
Happy 4th Birthday, Brennan! I love you!!!!

Happy 1st Birthday, Evan!

Today was Evan's 1st birthday...we had a small little family celebration at home. The big birthday party is on Saturday. I thought I'd share (and try out) this video.

I love you, Evan.

Little Boys

So, last night I was at the grocery store - feverishly shopping while Bryan was at home with the kids. I really didn't want to be there - but such things as milk and baby cereal forced me to go. I was standing in the soup/rice aisle. I'm staring at the lipton rice mixes trying to decide on a flavor that would go with anything I'd cook and there was a young man and his 4 or 5 year old son standing next to me. They were looking at the soup on the other side of the aisle. The little boy was getting restless - so he's facing his dad and kind of hanging on his waist/legs. He's hitting his Dad in the legs like "come on, let's go". All of the sudden - really loud - the kid says "Are these your balls?" I just about died laughing!!!! The man tried to ignore it but when he realized that me and this other woman were trying to ignore but we were laughing to ourselves he turned around and addressed the issue with the boy. It was hysterical!!!! I was so embarrassed for the Dad - but, leave it to a little boy to ask those questions.
